The Cause of Warming ; Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide dissolves in water comparatively well, and a water solution (carbonic acid) shows subacidity. Combustion of oil, coal and wood, breathing of the animals and plants, the resolution of organic matter by microbes and volcanic activities emit carbon dioxide in large quantities.
On the other hand, it is fixed by photosynthesis of plants as various organic compounds. Its concentration is about 370ppm (0.037%) at the end of the current atmosphere, but it is estimated that it was about 280ppm (0.028%) before the Industrial Revolution according to an analysis of ice cores.
The cause of the density increase is regarded as mass consumption of fossil fuel. Carbon dioxide has greenhouse effect, because it absorbs strongly in the infrared.
The effect is smaller than methane or chlorofluolocarbon, but carbon dioxide is the greatest cause of global warming because of huge emission.
